The Christening

It finally happened. I’d been waiting for it. Every child has this particular milestone, some much younger than Caedmon. But today was our day.

Caedmon likes to, um, do his business in private, and he will sometimes have a dirty diaper by the time his morning roomtime is over.

He’d been playing in his room for a good half hour. I went to let him know he could come out, and saw him playing with his tea set, feeding the stuffed puppy Nana made for him some “hot tea.”

My first thought was, “Yep. Stinky.”

My second thought was, “That’s so sweet that he’s pretending with his stuffed animals.”

My third thought was, “Something about this isn’t right.”

DSC09205My instincts were correct. Because if you look closely, you can see what’s not right. On his stomach. On his arms. On his hands.

And clearly, my son is quite talented, because he managed to get stuff everywhere without taking his diaper off. It was a little crooked, but it really took some creativity to get things going the way he did without taking that thing off.DSC09216 Oh, and my favorite? “Momma…keen my hands.” Oh yes, yes he did.DSC09214 Needless to say, a bath was in order. And seeing as I was already dressed for MOPS, I half undressed before touching him because I didn’t want to have to go change my clothes before we left. I still felt like I needed to Febreeze/Lysol/somehow otherwise disinfect myself afterward. Sorry ladies, if I still had poo essence about me as we sat at Panera. Hopefully the Cinnamon Swirl bagels overpowered it.

Since we were tight on time, I had to put off checking the stuffed animals until after we got home. Amazingly enough, the puppy dog was minimally affected. Snoopy and Peep Bunny, however, needed baths of their own. Apparently they were actively involved in the boy’s art project and the puppy just came afterward for snacks.

I just have one thing to say. Actually, I could say quite a bit more, but I’ll just say this. Really.

I have learned my lesson. I tried to buy Pampers Baby Dry diapers instead of Cruisers because there were 20-something more in a package. I was trying to be frugal. Besides, he doesn’t have super wet or yucky diapers anymore, really. But the Baby Dry diapers just don’t fit the same and have caused some other issues as well. And in the vein of complete denial, I am going to blame this incident on the Pampers people because I don’t want to believe that my son would play in poo of his own accord.

And that is all I have to say about that.
