Works-For-Me-Wednesday: Keeping Store Discounts Handy

I don't know about you, but I always love getting those Bed Bath & Beyond flyers in the mail with a 20% off coupon on the back. And the $5 off coupons in the little holiday catalog. Oh, and the 15% off at The Children's Place off of anything for a whole month that you can use over and over again as many times as you want.

And I have the best of intentions to use them.

But it never fails. I'll get to the store, sometimes still be in the car in the parking lot, and realize I left the coupon/discount at home. But by golly, I'm there, I've found what I want, and I'm buying it anyway.

That's a brilliant marketing strategy, wouldn't you say?

Recently, I found a way to remedy that problem. I keep those coupons in my glove box.

They come in the mail, I make a mental note of what I've got, then stick them in the glove box. That way, when I get to the parking lot and suddenly wonder where my 20% off coupon is, it's within arm's reach.

And a few weeks ago, I even got into the store and almost ready to check out before I realized I'd forgotten the coupon. But it was in my Xterra, sitting in the parking lot waiting for me. So, I walked out and got it and proceeded to check out, saving myself $14. (I'll have to show you sometime what I bought. It's C's new best friend.)

$14 is worth walking back to the car for. Not worth driving home and coming back.

And yes, they occasionally expire before I use them. But next time you get a new coupon, just check the expiration date on the old ones as you're putting it in the glove box.

It works for me!

  1. I've started doing that too. It makes it a lot easier. By the way, the Fayetteville BB&B even takes the expired ones. So don't toss them. I've used some that were a couple years old.

  2. I tried that once but it never failed that when I would want to buy something from a store that I had a coupon from we would have taken the other car.

Now I resort to a gallon sized ziploc bag that I keep on the kitchen counter and grab on the way out the door before I head to the mall or do any shopping.

  3. I do the same thing - BBB will take the expired coupons so don't toss them. They are told to take them :)
