House Update #4: So Much Progress!

Things have moved very quickly with the house the past couple of weeks. Remember my last update?

Before we left for our trip, there was just a concrete slab. While we were gone, I asked a friend to drive by and take a picture for us. Imagine my surprise when she sent me this.

Actually, I think my words were more like, “Holy crap!”

And when we drove by after we got back, things looked more like this.

The kids and I took a look around. Things were just as they were supposed to be. Mostly. There are always a few things that have to be tweaked or fixed.

This past weekend, we went over, Sharpies in hand, and wrote some scriptures we’d chosen on the walls. Here are a few.

Over the front door: Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

In the living room: Proverbs 24: 3-4 “Through wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established; by knowledge, the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

In the kitchen over the sink: Proverbs 14:1 “The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish woman pulls it down with her hands.”

In the office/school room: Matthew 7:24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who builds his house on the rock.”

In the guest/play room: Philippians 4:8 “Whatever things are true, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy, mediate on these things.”

In Caedmon’s room: Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord – plans for your welfare and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” This verse also (usually) hangs on both the kids’ walls, personalized with their names in the verse. I love the idea of having it actually on the wall as well.

Caedmon drew a “self portrait” on his wall.

In Honor’s room: Proverbs 31:30 “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.” This is also (usually) on Honor’s wall. I pray all the time that she will fear the Lord above all, and not succumb to all the “issues” girls face in our world.

Caedmon drew on her wall, too.

And Honor drew a little, too.

Caedmon insisted we write Genesis 1:1 on the wall. It’s one of the first scriptures he memorized. And he took the picture himself.

We also have plumbing roughed in. Which means bath tubs! This is the kids’ bathroom.

And here’s our big, beautiful tub.

I can’t wait to sit and soak in this thing. After it’s been thoroughly cleaned, of course.

Wednesday, we drove by to check on things. Somehow, they’ve managed to finish the roof and the guys were there installing windows!

I can’t tell you how excited I am that things are in the dry. In one way, it doesn’t seem like it will take until February for the house to be finished (which is what they’re telling us). In another way, it seems like it will be forever until it’s done. For now, we will enjoy the journey and celebrate each phase.

We did that too!!! Our basement isn't finished, so you can see the first floor floor beams. I tried to write a verse on each for our family, under the children's rooms, ours, the dining room, kitchen and living room, but MOST importantly to me, the entry ways. I wrote Romans 16:20 The God of Peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Since putting it under our entryways-literally-the amount of negativity that travels in has greatly diminished. Can't wait to see your finished home! Many blessings, love Aims

    1. I love that verse! Thanks for sharing. Now I'm going to go write it somewhere before they cover up all the beams!
