A New House

A year ago this very week, we were preparing for the movers to come and move us to a new home in a new state. And this past week, we moved to another new home – this time, just down the road.

Moving annually is not something I recommend. For someone like me, who loathes moving with every fiber of their being, it’s a form of torture. But it does give you the opportunity to purge items you may have been holding onto for whatever reason you thought was legitimate at the time. And faced with moving it yet again, you realize whatever that reason was, it wasn’t good enough. One of the worst parts of moving is trying to situate your stuff. Nothing fits the same. Yet another reason to get rid of some stuff. (All of that to say that I know I have a lot more things I could get rid of.)

(Here are the contents of our laundry room – moved to the new house in laundry baskets, appropriately.)

Mom came last year and we spent an entire week unpacking in our new house. Mom came again this year, and she and I moved almost everything we own except furniture over the course of four days by loading the car and Xterra. With the kids in tow. It was hard work. And there’s no way I could’ve done it by myself. If she hadn’t been here, it would’ve taken us two full weeks (or more?!) to get moved. But thanks to her help, we are in our house and mostly settled. Mostly. Next time she comes, we will have to do something fun – more fun than driving 25 minutes to Sonic for 1/2 price shake day, which we totally did.

Ian and the guys from our LifeGroup came one night and moved the furniture. We are immensely grateful for their hard work. And that they were still willing to help after they found out they’d have to move a piano.

We are all enjoying the new house. We still have pictures to hang and some things to find a home for. When we get everything put away, I’ll post some pictures of the new place.

Last night, Husband and I spent two hours organizing the garage. And both cars fit. With the door closed. That’s kind of a big deal.

  1. Is that the new house you moved into on the first picture of the post? It’s beautiful! It’s big! It’s a good thing your mom came down to help you move, or it would have taken a lot longer! At least, the move was a short drive since it was just down the road. I’d love to see more pictures of your new place!

    1. Well, that WAS the house we lived in. ;) We've since moved again - in October. I know, it's crazy.
