Deep Thoughts From Caedmon

Caedmon talks about his birthday all the time. He knows it’s getting close. He knows he’s three now, and will turn four on his birthday. But it’s just so hard to wait until your birthday! The other day, he turned to me and said, “Momma, I call me ‘four’ now. I don’t have to wait for my birthday.”

Caedmon has been asking a lot of questions about when Jesus died on the cross, and we’ve been discussing it frequently. He always wants to know where the actual cross is and what happened to it. I have told him it happened a long time ago, and the cross was made of wood and now is old and gone.

So the other day, he asked about something I had a long time ago. I told him I didn’t have it anymore because it was old. He asked, “Did you have it when the cross was still around?”

Caedmon likes to say the blessing at dinner sometimes. The other night instead of saying “Amen,” he said, “A man.”

Husband: “You mean ‘amen’?”

Caedmon: “No, I say ‘a MAN’.”

Men, man…I guess either way works.

Caedmon was trying to convince me to take him to get ice cream at 10:30 one morning.

Caedmon: “Momma, but I want ice cream!”

Me: “And I want a million dollars.”

Caedmon: “Ok, you can have it. Now can we go get ice cream?”

Nice try. And obviously I’m going to have to teach the boy about pipe dreams and sarcasm.

  2. I love that! When Jonathan was turning four, he said at his party that he would be four after he ate his cake.
