Watching Someone Else Work Was Easier

I’ve been MIA from the blog…Twitter…and it sort of feels like the rest of the world, too!

Mom was here all last week, and we worked hard. I thought she was a slave driver when I was a kid, but I think the tables may have been turned this time. We worked until late into the evening several nights. I’m thankful for her help and for her ability to keep me on track when my brain got so fuzzy I couldn’t think straight. If it weren’t for her help, I don’t know what I would’ve done. In 5 days we got almost everything unpacked – 4 more days than it took for someone else to pack it. Watching them pack was definitely easier than unpacking.

That being said, we made great strides, but the house is not quite “there” yet. Your stuff never fits into places like it did where you used to live, and it takes a while to figure out where things go. And then you have to make a mess in order to get things put away sometimes. And then there are other people in the household who like to wear clean clothes and eat food.

We had some families from our new church bring dinner a few nights last week, and that was a tremendous help. We got to meet some new people and their food was wonderful. They are lovin’ on us already, and it’s awesome.

I took Caedmon to the pool for a little while one afternoon. He had his first lifeguard rescue. He was following a new friend and jumped in a little over his head without his swim vest on. He was almost keeping his head above water, but couldn’t quite stay up. I saw it coming and was making my way over, but since he bailed in right in front of the lifeguard, she reached him about a second before I did. Caedmon didn’t seem phased at all, but we had another talk about not jumping into the pool without making sure it was ok first. We’ve since been back and he’s starting to swim underwater by himself a bit. I have a feeling we’re going to be spending lots of time at our neighborhood pools.

So on the agenda for this week is to finish putting things away as much as possible. Finding out if the moving company is ever going to locate Caedmon’s mattress and a few other things they somehow managed to not deliver. And figure out what to do with the stuff they brought that isn’t ours. And buy groceries. And do laundry.  You know, normal stuff. Normal stuff that I haven’t done much of in a while. I’m looking forward to “normal” again, whatever that is.
