Baby #2: 17 Weeks

Baby #2 Highlights

How Far Along: 17 weeks (Need to catch up? Here’s last week.)

Size of Baby: 5 inches or about the size of a turnip. Turnips are just gross, so there’s no way I was buying one. Our Charlie Brown Christmas Tree accessory that goes with the Charlie Brown Christmas “Action Figure” was so much better, and just the right size.

(Can Charlie Brown be considered an action figure? And can a tree be an accessory? We’ll pretend, m’kay?)

Please forgive the orange/red persuasion in these photos. Caedmon had put that sweatshirt on himself (backwards) after his bath, and I didn’t have the heart to make him change it for the photos.

Caedmon thought the Christmas Tree resembled an ice cream cone. Of course he licked it. Have you not been paying attention to the trend of the past few weeks?

Big Brother Caedmon: Caedmon’s enjoyed many tantrums this past week. But hallelujah, he’s napped every single day. During his busy schedule, he still finds time to ask questions about the baby and give him/her a kiss now and then. He’s also so excited about the Christmas tree, he is nearly beside himself. He asks every day when we will be putting it up.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +3 pounds according to the doctor’s scale at my last appointment. However, I think this baby has been growing because I’ve been starving this past week. Which means I’ve been eating. And probably weigh more than the +3.

Maternity Clothes: Mostly in public. At home, I still wear my regular sweats & t-shirts.

Gender: We don’t know yet. Appointment is scheduled, though! Can’t wait! A few friends have ventured a guess. I suppose we all have a 50/50 shot at being right.

Movement: Yes, and getting more noticeable and regular. The baby still seems really low. Caedmon was always a low-rider, and apparently this little one is too.

Sleep: I’m sleeping pretty well these days. I was waking up pretty frequently around 4am and wondering why I couldn’t go back to sleep. I finally realized the other morning that *someone* was having a party. Caedmon did the same thing about 2am, and it lasted until I finally put a stop to it when he was 6 months old. I have a feeling this baby and 4am are going to be tight.

Symptoms: Crazy dreams. A little bit of reflux, but mostly not unless I eat too much or bend over after eating. How can you not bend over with a three year-old around the house? And this past week, I’ve had random bouts of queasiness/nausea. I’m really hoping it’s just growth spurt/hormone surges because I really would rather not have it back permanently.

What I Miss: Nothing except a real Coke here and there. Husband bought me some real bottled Cokes as part of my anniversary gift. I can’t tell you how excited I am about those. I had one on Sunday afternoon while the guys were napping. It was so. good.

Cravings: Nothing in particular right now.

However.

As previously mentioned, Mimi told me she’s bringing a Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake (from The Cheesecake Factory/Sam’s) to Thanksgiving dinner. I have asked and received permission to have my dessert first.

Best Moment This Past Week: Caedmon wanted to sing to the baby, so I sat down and he put his little face by my belly and sang “Jesus Loves Me” to his little brother/sister.

What I Am Looking Forward To: The ultrasound appointment coming up in just a couple of weeks!
