A Christmas Letter

Every year, we get wonderful Christmas cards and letters from friends and family. And every year I toy with the idea of sending cards and/or letters. And then promptly proceed to not do it. So I thought that this year I would go ahead and write that Christmas letter and post it on the blog for the world to see. That's better than mailing it to a few folks, right? Of course, if you read the blog regularly, you probably already know all this stuff, but humor me, will ya? At least I'll be able to say I actually did a Christmas letter this year!

Greetings, Friends and Family! Another great year is nearly over, and we have a lot of catching up to do!

Our biggest news of the year is the new addition to our family. Caedmon James was born on August 31 to a very proud Mom and Dad. We adore him and are excited about our first Christmas as a family of three. Of course, he's the cutest kid in the whole world and at 3 months old, is in the process of learning to grasp his toys and use his little voice. He's a blast to have around, and the wonder in his eyes really makes you remember some of the lost joys of childhood.

Chris is enjoying a new position at the church. He is now the College/Young Singles Minister. After nearly ten years of working with Middle School students, this is definitely a new and different challenge, but very exciting just the same. He's even gotten involved with the BCM on the University campus, and is working with them to build both ministries. That's sort of a homecoming for us, as we hung out at the BCM when we were dating and attending school.

I have now become a stay at home Mom. There's a definite learning curve to this new job. Trying to figure out how to entertain a baby and do all the other stuff that needs to be done is certainly a challenge. But I am loving every minute of it and wouldn't trade it for all the tea in China.

The dogs? Ah, yes, the dogs. Argus and Criket have adjusted rather well to our new family member. Criket is still very curious about the boy, and would love to be practically in his lap all the time. Argus is only interested when he's crying or playing with a toy that squeaks. Hopefully all will continue to be well between the four-footed and two-footed little ones at our house for a long time to come. As for their behavior otherwise, that might be somewhat debateable, but I won't go into details. Let's just say they're sort of mischevious.

Wishing you a white and Merry Christmas from all of us!

So there it is. Sorry there are no family Christmas pictures to accompany it. I'll see what I can do about that, but don't hold your breath. It's taken me nine years to actually write a letter - adding a photo might be pressing our luck. Pin It

  1. Yes ma'am! I agree! I have you see your sweet baby boy! Just a thought...I know that Matt and I or Alyssa and I would be happy to play with him and take care of him if you and your hubby need a date night! (I'm sure so many people have told you that... haha) I had to put it out there just because I love kids so much. I hope you are doing great. We get in Friday night so hopefully we will see you this weekend.

  2. Remember our conversation about learning more from your parent's actions than from their words...this would be a case in point. I was never very good at sending Christmas cards.

And I certainly didn't send very many cards when ya'll were little! Lord, I was just barely keeping my head above money or energy to send sweet cards.

Once I came to the conclusion that folks would be just as happy to get an "all about us" letter in February - I managed to accomplish that lofty goal. It was only every other year or so...but it got done.

Now, I send everyone I can an e-mail version of my "letter" with pictures...and only snail mail the few to folks I don't have e-mail addresses for.

Being TIGHTER than Dick's hatband - I really appreciate the technology that lets me do that. I know the etiquette teachers would say it is less personal...but the other option is no letter at all...and that is really less personal! LOL
