The Current Bane of My Existence

As you can probably tell from previous posts, I am struggling mightily with an overzealous dog and the carpet stains he leaves behind. I know it’s not that interesting a topic, but it is currently what’s on my mind, and since this is my blog, you get to read about it.

Husband finally came to the breaking point last night. I had reached it weeks ago, and was waiting for him to catch up. Argus committed the foulest of sins and marked our bed; the comforter hanging off the end of the bed, to be exact. Luckily, the duvet soaked it all up before it actually got to the comforter, so I just stripped it off and tossed it in the washer; Of course, alternating between grumbling and giving the dog evil stares. He knew he’d done something wrong, but I don’t think he cares anymore. Since we didn’t catch him in the act, there wasn’t much we could do to scold him.

Husband, being the germ freak that he is, decided that he’d had enough and went to the internet for help. Of course, I’d been telling him the solution for a few weeks now, but he didn’t believe me. Lo and behold, all the information he found on the internet pointed to exactly what I’d been telling him we needed to do.

So now there are new doggie rules at our house. Just in case you’re interested: 1. No more furniture privileges. Ever. 2. They have to work for everything – sit, down, etc. 3. Slip up, and it’s 4-6 weeks in lock-down; never out of our sight, no room for mischief. I wanted to start off this way, but Husband says no, he wants to give them a chance first. Hmmm, seems that he’s got some mercy in there somewhere.

This morning it felt like I was the one being punished. The dogs have become accustomed to waking up a little before the alarm goes off, and being allowed to get on the bed with us until we get up. That came back to haunt me this morning when a half hour before the alarm was to go off, I felt little eyes peering over the edge of the bed at me. Between the whining, the grunting, and the jumping up on the bed, I had no peace until the alarm went off and it was actually time to get up. For some reason, they don’t bother Husband during the night/early in the morning. I’ll have to figure that one out...maybe teach them a new trick…”go ask Daddy.”

Husband also was dissatisfied with the cleaner/deodorizer I’d been using to clean the carpet (the key word here is I), so he found some new stuff; Which I went and picked up today on my lunch hour. We’ll see if he enjoys watching I use it. (I know, improper use of the personal pronoun, but it just doesn’t have the same impact if I change it to me.)

So the saga continues…I can honestly say that if someone had admired my dog about 9:45 last night, I would’ve given him away on the spot. I love him, but not enough to continue to clean up after him like that.

I feel a little bad about that, but not much. Pin It

  1. I'm so giggling at you right now! That's too funny. I would have most likely kicked whatever animal 'marked' my bed. That is SOOO not cool! But how is it that we can tell our husbands what we KNOW is the right thing and until some greater power of technology gets through to them, they don't believe us? Did you have to bite your tongue not to say "I told you so!"? :)

My word verification: ziwzioiz.... that's a lot of Z's.

Yes, our cat sheds EVERYWHERE, but there is no marking on anything. Yes we have to empty the litter box regularly, but nothing gets to the carpet!

  3. They've spent the 24 hours pouting, and are figuring out now that they are no longer allowed on any furniture in the house for any reason. They don't like it much. I don't care.

  4. Oh, Jill, by the way I didn't bite my tongue. He heard the full round of, "Isn't that what I've been saying?" He had no comment.

  5. NOW you know why all these years when ya'll begged and begged for inside pets that I held firm!
And continue to do so, for those still under my roof. I do not have enough mercy in me to make allowances for animals and humans all in the same day...so I had better save the little bit of mercy I have for the humans!
