Thoughts of Randomness

1. Y’all. I’ve discovered that there’s a GAP distribution center in my new town. I wonder if they give tours? And free samples? I could get behind that kind of field trip. It’d be educational for the boy, right? “Look Caedmon, this is how the cutest overpriced clothing gets to the store! This is where it lives before Momma visits it at the store until it goes on sale.” I wonder if there’s someone there we could talk to about them having added stretchy to their jeans? Because I am not a fan.

2.  There is a Sonic literally seconds away from our townhouse. And today will be my first time to go. We’ve been here a solid week and I haven’t been to Sonic. It’s like I don’t know myself anymore.

3. We’ve been to Walmart and Target, though. I think I could get back to them both without getting lost or having to ask Siri for directions. (We still don’t get along.) Caedmon actually gave me directions to Walmart the other day, and he did a fabulous job. I’m glad he got the navigational gene.

4. The tap water at our new place is…not good. So I need some recommendations for sink-mounted filters. Does anyone use one? (Our fridge here doesn’t have a filter either.)

5. The kids are doing better with sleeping in the same room. It’s still a challenge, though. Last night, we had to explain to Caedmon that it will take some time for Honor to adjust to sharing a room, and that it won’t last forever. Of course, that doesn’t help when she’s standing in her bed at 6:14am, squealing at the top of her lungs and yelling his name. We’ve told him that at that point, he can just come get in bed with me until it’s time to get up (Husband is already up). Trying to go in and intervene at that point doesn’t go over well, and Sister has got to adjust to Central Time. If she’ll embrace it, it will change her life.

6. After 15 months, I had finally learned all the cable channels in Georgia. Now I have to learn them all over again. I will unashamedly confess that the only ones I have memorized at this point are Disney, Disney XD, and Disney Junior. I almost freaked out the other night when we came *this close* to missing the first few minutes of Duck Dynasty because we had to use the stupid channel brochure to figure out what channel it was on.

Yes, I said “stupid.”

7. We’ve taken a break from school for, oh, almost a month. Well, not quite a month. But it feels like it. Caedmon is ready to start back, and I am too. It’s been comforting to know that he hasn’t forgotten everything he’s learned so far, as he’s been pointing out letters, sounds, and even writing letters he’s already learned without being prompted. Getting back into the school routine will be good for us all.

8. I feel so behind/out of it. I know I just moved 300 miles, but is that really an excuse for not having made anything with pumpkin yet? No. It’s not. That will be rectified very soon.

9. Our townhouse/apartment complex is literally teeming with squirrels. I am so glad that Oz only gives them a cursory stare, then completely ignores them. Even when they sit out front and stare at us through the window while we eat dinner. Little creepers.

10. My heart remains heavy for Julee and the Turner and Bell families. I have other friends who are dealing with other losses this week, as well. Life is hard, y’all. But I am so glad God tells us that His plans for us are GOOD. We can trust that He knows what He’s doing and know that even though things are hard, stinky, and sometimes downright awful, He has good in there for us. And if we continue to trust Him, He’ll bring us out on the other side with more good planned for us.

“For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11 (HCSB)

  1. Glad you all are settling in. Our GAP distribution center has an outlet center attached - 50-90% off all the time. Does yours? Also, Pur filters are the best! Had one on our sink faucet when we lived in AR, but our faucet here has the sprayer integrated and won't take the attachment. We use a free-standing Pur pitcher now. Gets refilled an awful lot! Great tasting water!

    1. Outlet attached to GAP? I will definitely have to check that out! I know there's an outlet not far from here, so maybe they don't have two? I think I'm going to try the Pur filter. I'm really getting tired of the chemical-y water. Ick!
