5 Months; 10 Years

Yesterday was Honor’s 5 monthday. It was also the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

I vividly remember that day. I remember the clothes I was wearing and what my neighborhood looked like on my way out that morning. I was driving to work when the news of the first plane hitting the towers came over the radio. I got to the office and turned the TV on. We were all still in shock, and I ended up wandering from the office over to the restaurant I worked for at the time. They always had a couple of TVs on, and it was there I watched the second plane hit.

I didn’t watch any of the documentaries or news recaps about 9/11 this past weekend. I think watching it once was enough. And honestly, I’d rather not relive that day. Remember the heroes, honor those lost, and the sacrifices made, yes. I was especially proud of the University of Arkansas and their efforts to honor 9/11. (And thankful for our friends who were there and videoed some of it so we could see it.)

There were so many mixed feelings that day 10 years ago. Sadness. Fear. Anger. Resolve. I feel that way today when I think about what happened. 10 years and 2 days ago, I never dreamed that anything like that would happen in America. To America. I never dreamed that anything could happen on our own soil in one day that would change our nation so dramatically. It’s happened before – Pearl Harbor. But that’s something you watch in movies and read about in history books, not experience yourself. I also never dreamed that 10 years later, I’d be the Mom of two awesome kids.

And here I am, 10 years later, celebrating my baby girl being 5 months old. She will learn about September 11, 2001 in history books. And hear stories from people who lived it. Hopefully she will be a little safer because of the sacrifices made on that day and since. Until then, I will enjoy this sweet face and be thankful for the people who help keep us all safe every day.

  2. I seriously cannot believe how much she has grown since I last saw her! She is so cute and so big! Love her little rolls!

Josh just walked by while I was looking at this and said, "Holy Crap! Chris Swain has a mini-me!" I can't stop laughing now!

And for the record, she looks like Melissa! Josh is wrong. :)

  3. Charity, we were getting ready for church. That's probably the ONLY reason that boy was wearing clothes...and shoes!

Jennifer, she is growing so fast! I love her rolls too, since Caedmon never had them! And I think it's hilarious that Josh thought she looked like Chris. Everyone says something different!
