Sugar Makes Everything Better

Sister’s room is coming along nicely. Very soon I’ll be “done” and ready to post photos. I can’t wait for ya’ll to see it!

Yesterday, Caedmon and I had some errands to run and I had already planned on taking him to a local bakery for a special treat. Rick’s is legendary around here, for good reason. Husband has taken Caedmon there for their Saturday donut run before, but he’s never been for any other reason. Rick’s is a bit unique because they have a café area – you can go order a cake and have lunch in the same place. Multitasking at its best.

When we finished at Target yesterday morning, I told Caedmon I had a surprise. That I was taking him to Rick’s Bakery where they made cupcakes, cookies, and all sorts of treats, and he could choose anything he wanted.

Anything. he. wanted.

I think he was confused a bit at first, because the next words out of his mouth were, “Momma, but I’m hungry!”

So we talked a bit, he asked more questions, and finally it sunk in that he was going to get something to eat. At Rick’s. And he could choose whatever he wanted.

“Momma, I am so excited!”

I was a little surprised to see a huge line at 10:30am on a Thursday, but it gave us time to peruse the cases and let Caedmon decide what he wanted.

I think he chose faster than I did. It was difficult because I wanted one of just about everything. I can try to blame it on the baby, but really and truly I was just hungry and everything looked good. We finally made our picks and stood in line for what seemed like a sweet forever because a certain three year-old was practically already on a sugar high from just smelling the yumminess.

Then we sat down and enjoyed our treats.

Here’s what I got. The light wasn’t the best, but it’s a Caramel Apple Turnover. Yummy!

And Caedmon chose this cookie. “The big one with a monkey on it.”

And yes, that monkey is made of chocolate frosting.

Eating it was a challenge.

And a little messy.

Ok, a lot messy.

But we had a great time together and enjoyed our treats. And it was a great diversion from all the strife he and I have had this week. Maybe that was what we needed to break out of our yucks. We’ll definitely be going back. Perhaps sooner than later!
