Baby #2: 11 Weeks

Baby #2 Highlights

How Far Along: 11 weeks (Need to catch up? Here’s last week.) Today was my check-up with Dr. P. She said everything’s great and we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! Husband made an audio recording of the heartbeat for Caedmon since he wasn’t with us. He has a thing with heartbeats.

And per Jennifer’s request, here’s a belly shot that Caedmon took of me. Isn’t he a great photographer? (Please ignore the crib & jeans-induced holes in my shirt.)

Size of Baby: About 1 1/2 inches, or the size of a fig. Seriously, who wants to buy a fig (if you can even find one, which I could not)? Not me. So we found an appropriate substitute…a monkey.

Caedmon was less than enamored with taking the monkey photos.

Then he copped an attitude. Maybe it was because I was taking his pictures with his hair looking like that.

And ended up thinking the whole thing was silly,

Big Brother Caedmon: We haven’t talked a lot about the baby the past week. We’ve been busy and it’s not such a novel topic anymore. He does seem proud to confirm that yes, he will be a big brother, but only when people ask him about it. And he’s decided that some days the baby is a boy, some days the baby is a girl. He still asks to see and touch the baby. I’ve promised him that when the baby gets a little bigger, he’ll be able to feel him/her moving around in my belly. I think that weirds him out. (To be honest, it weirds Husband out a bit, too.)

Total Weight Gain/Loss: It’s official. According to the doctor’s scale, I’ve gained 2 pounds. Actually, since my last appointment, I’ve gained 4 pounds, but I lost 2 right after I got pregnant, so from my actual, pre-pregnancy weight I’ve only gained 2. Do you see why I do my best to ignore the whole weight thing?

Maternity Clothes: Not yet. I tried to wear a pair of maternity jeans to Walmart the other day because I didn’t want to fiddle with the Bella Band. It turns out I’m not quite ready for the maternity pants yet because I ended up hiking them up every three steps. I’ve gone back to the Bella Band for a while. I did wear a maternity top for our family photos last week, but other than it being really long it doesn’t look like a maternity shirt. And I couldn’t find a non-maternity shirt in the right color, so even if I hadn’t been pregnant, I might’ve worn it.

Gender: We don’t know

Movement: None yet

Sleep: Allergies are still plaguing me. That bothers my sleep more than anything else. Well, that and Caedmon yelling at me at 3am to come cover up his feet because he’s insisting on sleeping with a tiny blanket instead of his big fuzzy one. (The tiny blanket has now been banned, FYI.)

Symptoms: Crazy dreams. Still some fatigue, but it’s either gotten to a level where I’m just tired all the time and don’t notice it as much or it’s getting better. I haven’t decided which yet. Except for yesterday. I could’ve stayed in bed all day and still would’ve been exhausted.

What I Miss: Nothing except a real Coke here and there. Going to Sonic seems so pointless now.

Cravings: Spinach Dip from MarketPlace Grill. I woke up from my Sunday afternoon nap absolutely dying for it. I resisted the urge to run and get some. But I’ve been plotting and planning all week. Guess what I had for lunch today while Caedmon was at KDO and I didn’t have to share? Also I’m craving more fruit things. Not necessarily fruit, but fruit things – smoothies, etc. I’m glad that smoothie stuff I bought is coming in handy.

Best Moment This Past Week: Taking our family photos as a family of 3 for the last time (but knowing Baby #2 was actually with us in the photos, just incognito).

What I Am Looking Forward To: Feeling the baby move for the first time. Hopefully soon!

  2. Love it! Thank you for giving into my request!

I have a love/dislike relationship with your updates. I love them because I am SO excited about your sweet little babe but I every week you post is one week closer to Jill's wedding, which makes me panic a little because we have a lot to do! I am sitting here thinking we only have 29 more weeks until the wedding. Cue stress! Ha!
