Works-For-Me-Wednesday: Keepsakes

I am not very sentimental.

I am not a scrapbooker.

I am not a “keeper of things.”

I cannot stand clutter.

In fact, one of my favorite pastimes is throwing things away, much to the dismay of Husband.

That being said, I do like to hang onto some things I think might be important. At some point. To someone.

So when I found out C would be joining our family, I had to figure out how to keep things for him without driving myself crazy.

I wanted to be able to keep “paper” things and “not paper” things, you know, “stuff.” Small stuff, but stuff.

The best way for me so far has been photo storage boxes.

They’re relatively small, yet big enough to keep some paper stuff and non paper stuff.

Hobby Lobby has them for 50% off pretty frequently, so that makes them very affordable. And they’re not ugly, which is a plus.

The Container Store (which I L.O.V.E.) has document storage boxes that can hold letter and legal size papers. They’re a bit pricier, but when C gets older and starts bringing home those school papers, it might be worth the investment. (I spotted one at Wal-Mart the other day, too.)

I’ve been able to use about one photo box per year (so far). I love that I can slip the label into the little holder on the end of the box and stack the previous year’s box in the top of C’s closet.

For the current year, I actually keep the box on top of C’s chest of drawers. It’s available all the time, so it’s zero effort to toss stuff in. And since it’s not ugly, I don’t mind it sitting out.So that works for me! Check out We Are THAT Family for more Works-For-Me-Wednesday tips.

  1. You probably got your "throw-away" gene from me. Although I must say your dad's "keep it" gene has come in handy around here more than once. But about those keepsakes. I probably have a paper or two that you brought home from the church nursery...but I will be lucky if we can even find the birth certificate for the siblings that came along later.

  2. That box is really cute. I love the bright colors!!
I have the "throw it aways" too. I can't stand keeping things around just to be sentimental about them...
