Pottery Barn Stuff On A Dollar Store Budget

I have a constant problem when it comes to decorating: I have Pottery Barn taste and a dollar store budget.

I have been covetous of this bench from Pottery Barn for a long time. Can you even imagine the organizational possibilities?

Every time a Pottery Barn catalog comes in the mail, I inevitably stop on the page with the bench and gaze longingly at it. Maybe even pat it once or twice, mumbling something about how it belongs in my house. And the hutch that goes with it? Don’t even get me started.

So a couple of weeks ago when I saw this bench at a going-out-of-business sale, I had to make an offer. DSC02493And I paid $30 for it. Yes, that’s one zero behind the three.

Yeah, it’s crayon yellow. But paint can work wonders.

I already had the paint, and spent about $20 on additional supplies.

I took advantage of Kids’ Day Out this past week and transformed the yellow brick bench into a Pottery Barn look-alike. DSC02919And here’s the finished product!DSC02996So for $50, here’s my “dollar version” of the Pottery Barn bench.

Two words: Love it.

  2. Thanks! I bought it at the Monday's Child going out of business sale. I stalked it for a few weeks since I kept going back, waiting for stuff to be marked down more. I just knew someone else was going to buy it. But it was still there the day before they closed, so I made an offer on it.

The best part was that she had a $75 price sticker on it and since she said, "no reasonable offer refused" on the fixtures, I asked if she'd take $30 for it. I guess she thought that was reasonable, and I'm glad!
