I currently have a little boy who is eating me out of house and home.
Well, some days, anyway.
There are days his little 18 month-old body consumes the equivalent of three bites and other days I can't feed him fast enough. It's like he's a garbage disposal with chubby legs constantly wanting, "Moe! Moe!" (More! More!)
My dilemma is really not should I feed him. I'll let him eat until the cows come home. But I really struggle sometimes with what to feed him.
And the hardest thing to find is a good, not completely messy, not expensive, healthy snack. And bonus points for one we can throw in the car and take with us, not worrying about refrigeration or leaking.
I recently found a new favorite thing.
Now understand that I'm not a brand buyer, purchasing things just because of the label. I'm definitely a find-the-best-for-less kind of girl. And I've never been a fan of cartoon characters on boxes of cereal, making kids think they need to eat Captain Crunch because he's just so cool, nevermind that it shreads the top of your mouth.
A few weeks ago, I was looking for a new fruit for C to try. He loves raisins, dried cranberries and apricots, and even dried sour cherries. But they're a bit sticky when it comes to travel. On the shelf right next to them, I found these lovely little snacks.
They're Disney's new freeze-dried fruit. No added sugar, preservatives, or any of that junk. Just fruit. And they were 62 cents per pouch. I can't get the Gerber stuff over in the baby aisle for nearly that cheap. And they're not sticky. A bit crumbly, yes. But crumbs are much easier to clean up than goo.
We've tried the apple, peach, and pear. He loves them. I have some strawberry & banana in the pantry right now.
Freeze dried fruit crisps work for me!

My little guy loves them too!
What a great age, huh? I will keep a look out for those, they look great. I have been toying with the idea of trying to dehydrate fruits myself....this looks much easier, lol.
ReplyDeleteI sure wish my 2 year old would eat more, but she loves these treats also. I want to try to make them at home on my own but who knows if that will ever happen! thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteDo you know if they sell these in Canada and where I could fiind them? Thanks for the info- fruit and veggies are so hard to get little ones to eat!
