Continuing on, C woke at 4am Christmas morning. And he was not about to go back to sleep anytime soon.
So since we were planning on heading home that morning anyway, Husband and I decided to just get up and go. We loaded the Xterra to the brim, strapped the stroller on top, and hit the road by 4:30am.
Starbucks isn't open on Christmas, and there's nothing open at 4:30 on Christmas morning besides a gas station here and there, just so you know. Not even Wal-Mart.
C slept until 8am, and we were home by 9:30. It was great to be home.
What was even better was the presents Mom & Dad had left at the house since we'd had to miss Christmas with them. We tore into those and thoroughly enjoyed the gifts everyone sent. C's instant favorite was the cash from Cini and Papa Duke that NLB had creatively wrapped around a pencil inside a water bottle.
And then, it was naptime. Glorious naptime. C slept like a log in his own bed. He woke briefly for lunch, more gifts and playtime, then went down for another nap.
All C got from us on Christmas was a few stocking stuffers. Because, you know, we already gave him his big gift. And I'd already gotten mine. So we mainly watched Husband open his gifts; which we enjoyed very much. And I think he did too.
After our wonderful but brief time of rest, we went over to Mimi's. Everybody was there, and C had a blast conning one relative after another to take him outside.
We headed home, our tummies full and our bodies weary. It was so good to sleep in our own beds, yet even better to have been able to spend so much time with our families over the Christmas holiday.
And I think that's part of what Christmas is about. Seeing your family, eating too much, staying up too late, enjoying the holiday, and being even more thankful for your own pillow when it's all over.
