Chickster was feeling not quite up to par the other day, so we needed a calm activity. I got out one of his board books and strapped him into his rocker. We sat together and read a book about animals.
The cool thing about the book we were reading is that for each animal it had a sample of what their fur or skin might feel like. Chickster's favorite was the lion's mane. "Raawwrrr!" Apparently it's hilarious when Mommy makes the lion sound, but it's not cool enough for Chickster to try to imitate it.
After a while, he grew tired of petting the lion. After all, one can only pet a lion so many times before it becomes (yawn!) bo-ring. So Chickster began a fun game of pick-up.
He would look at the book for a moment, drop it (or fling it violently), then insist on leaning over to pick it up himself, sometimes just about falling on his head in the process. If I handed it to him, he would immediately toss it away again and lean over to pick it up himself. This went on until I declared we were done; or until he decided to try to climb out the back of the chair.
I think those came about the same time.
