Works-For-Me Wednesday

I've recently been lurking on some newly-found blogs, and have discovered a few I really enjoy. I haven't linked them yet because I'm still "getting to know" the writers (even though I don't really know them), and want to make sure they're cool before I put my stamp of approval on them for my loyal readers.

Anyway, over at Rocks In My Dryer, she has a weekly post she calls "Works-For-Me Wednesday". The basic idea is that she will post something that works for her (a shortcut, new idea, or anything that makes life easier). And her readers can use their own blogs to post something that works for them, then link at the bottom of her post. Ya'll, the last one she did had over 240 links. I love it. I mean, who can't use a new idea every now and then?

So I've decided to participate in WFMW. I can't say that I'll have something of value every week, but when I do I will certainly post it and link to Rocks.

Here's my little tidbit for this week. Maybe it's a forehead slapper for some of you more seasoned Moms, but I'm new here. In the stain-fighting area of my life, I have recently struggled. I mean let's face it. Pureed carrots are probably one of the most difficult things to get out of clothes. So I've found that color-safe bleach is my best friend. But it's blasted hard to pre-treat with because you have to get it from the giant container onto the correct spot on the clothes without dripping it everywhere. I tried pouring some into the cap, then pouring it onto the clothes. But that just got my cap all goopy and if you know me, you know I can't take that.

So here's what I did: I picked up an empty mini-shampoo bottle from the travel size section at the store and filled it with the color-safe bleach. (A funnel comes in handy here, but if you've got a steady hand you can try it without). It's small enough to handle easily and extrudes a small amount of the stain-fighter at a time. It definitely helps get your pre-treater on the correct spot without having to pour stuff all over the clothes and hope you hit the stain in the process. And no, it doesn't run out too quickly to make it worthwhile. At least for me.

There it is. My very first Works-For-Me Wednesday. I hope it works for you. Pin It

  1. I've been a fan of Rocks in My Dryer for a long time! I spend a lot of time in the WFMW posts when I don't want to do anything else. Also, I wrote a long email to respond to the last one you sent me and then my email screwed up and lost the whole thing. So next time I get some energy to think through all that again I'll redo it.

This is actually a very good tip. I am still not mastering the stain thing over here so I need all the help I can get.

  4. I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I am sure you inherited the ability to take something unrelated to the situation and use it as part of the solution from your dear father. Some of us will recognize the distinctive trait that makes Papa Duke the best "fixer" in the world. Just think of the myriad of problems he has solved with a big truck mud flap.
