New Year's Resolutions

It's that time of year again...when everyone starts thinking about their New Year's resolutions. Don't tell me you haven't ever made one. Everyone has. And if you've actually kept your resolutions, you'd be in the minority.

We can blame the Babylonians for the curse of New Year's Resolutions. They are the ones who started that monkey business. Apparently their resolutions were more akin to returning borrowed farming equipment than our typical "lose 10 pounds" resolution. A quick search on the internet will bring you countless websites with advice and tips on making and keeping your resolutions. Really? Is it actually that big a deal?

I don't remember making any New Year's resolutions in years. Of course that's the nature of them, isn't it? If you don't remember making them, you don't remember blowing them. But really, I don't see much of a point. Why wait until New Year's to vow to make a change in your life? Why not decide you want to make a change in April and do it then? If you follow the resolution crowd, you'd have to wait a whole 9 months to make a change in your life. And by that time you forget what it was you wanted to change anyway, or at least are no longer motivated to do it.

If you are a resolutioner, I'm not knocking you. Well, yes I am, but that's beside the point. Go ahead and make your resolutions. I'd even like to know what they are. That way in March, I can ask how it's going. And then again in August and about mid-December. I'd like to know if someone is actually able to keep their resolutions. And if you're not, I have someone to point and laugh at. Just kidding. No, I'm not. Pin It

  1. I saw Wanda what-ser-name, the comedian, on Jay Leno the other night (that woman is a bit vulgar, but man does she make me giggle!!) and she said her resolution is simple and she's kept it every year..... it's this - not to stab anyone. I think I could get away with making and keeping that one.
