In Case You Missed It, We’re Moving…

I realize yesterday’s post might have been a bit of a bomb shell for my friends. I’ve had a while to wrap my head around it, but it’s still weird. Yes, we’re moving, but I’ll continue to blog and Tweet. And with phones, texts, and (thankfully) direct airline flights, hopefully our new home won’t seem quite so far away. I might have to figure out a way Jennifer, Sara, Sydney, Marci, Jenna, Rebekah, and the other girls can Skype me in for Girls’ Nights Out!

The past week has been a whirlwind, and the next two promise to be even more so. This week we have Caedmon’s 11th laser treatment (Which means a trip to Children’s – with both kids!) and the task of finding a place to live in our new area, plus getting more estimates from movers. If I stop to think about all that has to be accomplished in these few short days, my head starts to swim. You don’t even want to see my list. Make that lists. And most things can’t be checked off until we have a house or I’m done with moving estimates. So it’s a hurry-up-and-wait game. I don’t like that game. At all.

So I’ve promised myself that I will take it one day at a time. That’s really all I can handle, anyway. Yesterday actually ended in today since I didn’t go to bed until after midnight. I’d like to blame it on someone besides myself, but both children and Husband were peacefully sleeping long before I went to bed. Some things just have to be caught up, and the checkbook is one of them. I was very behind. The mental anguish it was causing was enough to drive me batty in itself, not to mention everything else that seems to be in disarray. Hopefully having that fixed will ease my mind a little. At least until I buy a few groceries and gas up the car today and become instantly not-caught-up anymore.

It’s been almost eight years(!) since we moved back here. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. But it’s been so long since we’ve moved that the “ick” of it fades from memory. Sort of like childbirth, I suppose. You forget just how un-fun it is until it’s time to do it again. So I’m open to any ideas and suggestions that might make it less painful, especially for Caedmon. We will be taking pictures of our new church and new house for him, and maybe a few places around town. I think that recognizing places when he gets there will be helpful for him. Y’all know how he likes to talk about stuff.

We’ll also be driving for two straight days when we move. The drive could be made in a day (with grown-ups,) but we’ll break it into two in order to arrive with our sanity. Caedmon will have his DVD player and hopefully an iPad to play with, but even those things can get boring. I’d love any ideas you have that would help occupy him in the car…things that don’t have to be closely managed by a grown-up since we’ll both be driving. (Not the same car. I’ll drive mine, Husband will drive his. Man, my brain is having a hard time already this morning.)

I’m off to stare at a list that can’t be accomplished (and add to it) and buy a few groceries so we’ll have something to eat this week. We’re out of “white” yogurt…which may turn into a crisis of epic proportions since that seems to be Caedmon’s go-to food item right now. I can only handle so many of those at once, so I’d better head to Walmart.

  1. We have DVD players in our cars and that's what help get our kids through the 10 hour drive back to Alabama each time. Good luck with the move! :)

  3. Ok so we moved when Jack was 3 and some change. We kept telling him the"builders" were getting our new house ready. He was excited about getting to see the finished product. He did really well with the transition. Anna Kate and Hudson were too young to have a clue what's going on. I say go to the dollar store and buy 10 surprises and wrap them. Have Caedmon open them every hour or so along your trip. Then at least he has something to look forward to. Again not thrilled about y'all moving, but we will get excited eventually.
