Take Two Aspirin…

I’m stepping up on my soapbox today. I really try to keep my opinions in check, or at least limit them to the best kinds of ink pens and baby gear. But this, this I couldn’t stay quiet about any more.

If you do not like opinions, strong ones, you’re free to click away now. Otherwise, hang on. I’m not delusional enough to think that everyone will agree with me. And it’s ok if you don’t. Let’s just keep things civil and if necessary, agree to disagree.

I will start by saying that I have had it up to “here” with the people we’ve sent to Washington. With a few exceptions (that don’t seem to get quite the press the others do), most of them live in a completely different world than the rest of us.

A world where they have a security person, a maid, someone to drive them around, staffers to do their work for them, and pay their taxes when and if they feel like it. All while getting a fat paycheck and loads of “recess” time, all on the Taxpayers’ dime.

The Taxpayers…that’s you and me.

And now these people who live in their own little universe are trying to take over ours. Every time I turn on the news, I hear more and more about how the government is trying to take over what used to be a free market.

Now they’re helping us buy cars. They’re paying people to buy a house. And pretty soon…pretty soon they will be trying to make our healthcare decisions for us.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the same people who gave billions to banks (and then didn’t follow thru on making them do what they were supposed to do), ran out of money on their oh-so-fabulous car buying program in four days (and then beg to get more that we will have to borrow from some foreign country that hates us), and can’t even pay their own taxes or make sure their employees have a legal right to work in this country to be in charge of the decisions that affect my health. That’s life or death, people.

If you don’t believe me, take some time to read the “healthcare” bill that’s currently being debated in the House. I won’t go into details here, but I saw several things that are extremely disturbing. (If you’d like to see some examples, email me. I’ll be glad to share.)

I’m not saying there aren’t room for improvements in our current system. But I don’t believe the answer is a bureaucrat sitting behind a desk making decisions that should be nobody’s business but mine.

The bottom line is this. Be aware. Be proactive. Call or email your Congressmen/women and Senators. Tell them what you think about stuff. It will only take 5 minutes. They need to hear from you. From me. We are the American People.

I am happy to say that my Congressman listens to his constituents. I can only hope the rest of them will do the same thing.
