The Detox

The bad thing about going away for a few days is all the stuff you have to deal with when you come home.

The laundry. The jam-packed mailbox that your lovely postman definitely made no effort to stack nicely and half your mail is a crumpled mess (and realizing that next time, yes, you should go ahead and put the mail on hold…one more thing to add to that list). The dog that’s been in the kennel and is so happy to see you he can’t stand it – and neither can you. Having to get back to reality and realize you have to actually cook food for your family to eat. And? The boy who did just fine without you but is tired, a bit cranky, and pitching a fit every 4.3 seconds.

Nevermind that Momma’s cranky too for no apparent reason.

We had a great time away, but needless to say, getting back to the real world was a bit bumpy. I think someone referred to it as The Detox.

It’s nice to know that we’re not the only ones who have to deal with all the craziness upon the return home, but why did no one warn us about it? Hello? Aren’t you supposed to help each other out instead of snicker behind my back thinking, “Just wait until they get home!”

Thanks a lot, ya’ll.

I’d say we’re back to normal now. And since that seems to change daily, I’m not even sure what that really means.

I just know that next time I will be prepared for The Detox.

  2. Good luck actually preparing for the detox! When we went to Florida a few weeks ago, I cleaned the house and had all the laundry done before we left. I also did my laundry in Florida so I could just put everything into drawers when I got home...well needless to say I think we are still detoxing!

  3. I have not discovered any way around the doldrums that happens when you return home. The only good thing is the great sleep you get in your own bed...other than that it takes whatever time you spent getting ready to go on your trip - it takes exactly 1 1/2 times that amount to recover. And, yes, I was one of the ones snickering behind your back bahaha!
