My Favorite Things

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard the song "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. You know, "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..." And yes, I know that song is now stuck in your head for the next three days. You're welcome. It was on a radio station that was playing "all Christmas music all the time."

First, I shuddered, remembering the time I had to learn to play that dumb song on the piano. Then, I thought about how I never really liked that movie. Suddenly it dawned on me...this is not a Christmas song. What in the world was this radio station doing playing this as a Christmas song? Who knows? Who really cares? Not I.

But it did get me started thinking about some of my favorite things...favorite Christmas things, to be specific. So here's another list. (Imagine that!)

  • White twinkle lights
  • Snowmen
  • The excuse to eat dessert all the time
  • Getting to see family and friends that I haven't seen in a while
  • Sale, sale, sale
  • Shopping for Husband's gifts
  • People are nicer
  • Snow (sometimes)
  • Free days off work
  • New Year's is just a week away, another free day off work
  • Munchies and the excuse to eat finger foods all the time
  • Baking - because it's just more fun at Christmas
  • Christmas cards from cool people and places (got one from London the other day)
  • Christmasy smelling candles
  • Watching A Charlie Brown Christmas and the original Dr. Seuss' Grinch on TV

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of any right now. Let me know if I've forgotten any biggies.

  1. Never saw the sound of music.. Something about the chick in balk flying around on an umbrella bothered me!!

I like snowmen, IF they are the Calvin and Hobbes variety..

  2. Um, wrong movie. You're thinking Mary Poppins, who was also played by Julie Andrews. Are you saying that she freaked you out for good?

  4. OK you movie weirdos. You are the people that think Waterboy is a classic. The Sound of Music is a good movie.

  5. I'm sorry, but any movie with a girl spinning on a mountaintop singing in falsetto is NOT a good one in my book.
