I'm Getting Old

Ok, so yesterday I turned 27. Yep, I'm getting old. Not that I feel old, but it just seems that time is slipping away. There are several things I would like to accomplish before I turn 30, and that's not very far away. I think some of those things are either going to have to be "late or never." Growing up, I think we all had dreams and aspirations, some of which we knew would never happen. Other times we made conscious choices to go in another direction. That makes for a life that is not exactly how we pictured it to be, planning our lives out in a house with a picket fence, 1.4 dogs and 2.5 kids. Since we currently have two dogs and no kids, we're way off. Ha!

I had a friend tell me the other day that he'd seen a whole deal on the internet that "50 is the new 30"...which makes me feel a little better, but who really believes that? And what does that make 30?

You know you're getting old when you start sentences with, "When I was your age..." or "I remember when...." I found myself saying that the other day to a teenager who was distraught because her boyfriend, who is away at college, doesn't have a cell phone. She actually had to call his room and ask whoever answered the phone if she could speak to him. How horrible! Forget that when I was growing up, you had to be wealthy or James Bond to have a cell phone. And they were the size of a small suitcase that you had to lug around with you. Now everybody's got a cell phone that not only fits nicely into a pocket, but also contains games, a calendar, email, and a camera.

You also know you're getting old when you'd rather stay home on Friday night because a) you're tired, b) you don't want to be out late, or c) your friends are tired or don't want to be out late. I used to be able to stay up late, get up early, and roll through life uneffected. Not anymore. I don't know if it's because I'm getting old or getting ugly, but I need my beauty sleep. Days that I don't get enough sleep, I tend to be very cranky...which Husband would probably say is every day - at least first thing in the morning.

And when the clothes you wore as a kid start hitting the shelves again you know you're in trouble. And I'm not talking about the Goodwill shelves. Scary, some of those things we used to wear. Even scarier still is that people are wearing them again. By choice.

It's not like me to sit around and think about what should've, could've, might've been. But I guess everybody has to do it sometime or another. Hopefully I'm done with it. I've had about enough of this thinking - makes my head hurt. Pin It

When you said something about your clothes it made me think of that blue Beleize (or whatever it was) shirt. You wore it when you were 10 and I wore it till I was... 10 and the only reason I stoped was because mom threw it away. Other wise I would still be wearing it... I loved that shirt.

  2. Well, it is true that few of us are living the life we planned when we were 12 or 15 or 20!

I am certainly not as wealthy as I had planned to be by now. I keep spending all my money!

Might as well not spend anymore time on the could've, should've, might've been...it ain't gonna be...so just make it different!
