We had a power outage where the power went out at 6:00 AM - it was still dark; he had turned his light on in the middle of the night so when the power went off he stood up on his bed to turn it back on and fell out of bed; by the time I got to him he was shaking and sobbing. Now, he has to have a light on at all times. We have finally been able to get him to leave just the lamp on and not the overhead light but as soon as he is up - if it isn't light out yet, he has to turn on all the lights in the house. I understand his fear; and as long as lights are on, he is ok; but I hope for his sake he can grow out of it.

I'll pray for him AND for you - that this fear can be resolved.Jackie Kollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16587109993012923471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12942282.post-79778626239964343072012-01-11T09:30:33.121-06:002012-01-11T09:30:33.121-06:00Thank you for sharing, ladies! That Timothy verse is actually my life verse.
I still have in my Bible one of the things that helped me the most.
It's an entire list of verses in the Bible dealing with overcoming fear.
Maybe you can record you reading some/all of them (since he's not a reader yet) and have them where he can play them if/when he wakes up at night.
There are some great songs by a guy named David Teems that are all scripture with music and calming sounds. I listened to those every night when I was going through a tough time.
Praying for the little guy and his tired momma!
-GinaGinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05357403439509255337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12942282.post-16026546272098384712012-01-11T09:20:57.003-06:002012-01-11T09:20:57.003-06:00i hate this for him and for you. i struggled with ...i hate this for him and for you. i struggled with fear as a child (and still do sometimes!) and it sounds so much like what caedmon is going through. my parents did all of the same things y'all are doing...praying, memorizing scripture, lights on, sitting outside my door so i could see them, even having me speak to the counselor at school and our pastor at church.
i wish i could say there was one solution that really worked and ended it all for me, but there really wasn't. my dad found a page from the daily calendar that said, "remember when you sleep tonight, HE is awake" and wrote a prayer at the bottom for me. We framed it and put it on my nightstand by the nightlight for me to look at when i woke up (Even though i couldn't read it, yet). but, it wasn't something that i really "outgrew" because as i got older, there were more things to be afraid of. HOWEVER, i think y'all are doing an awesome job of teaching caedmon strategies of how to deal with his fear. he may not understand them or know how to put them into practice right now, but what an awesome foundation you're building for him. My parents did the same things and even if they didn't have immediate effects over my fear as a 4/5 year old, they have lasting effects to this day. Now, I know that the way to conquer fear is to pray, memorize scriptures, and not let it take root in my heart. I can (and do!) do all of those things as an adult all because I had parents (like y'all) that taught me those things as a child. I will be praying for Caedmon and for you. I know how hard it is. Praying for some rest for all of you....both physically and emotionally! xoxoAmyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01286560001905796964noreply@blogger.com
